I’m a qualitative UX researcher with Community Integrity, based in Menlo Park. I work with the Harmful Behavior and Harmful Content teams, focusing on foundational research to better understand negative experiences users have on Facebook. I work to understand how we can empower users to resolve problems on their own, as well as how we can prevent negative experiences in the first place. Prior to joining Facebook, I was a research scientist in Doha, Qatar at the Qatar Computing Research Institute. I studied how Gulf Arabs interacted on and with social media, and the reinterpretation that took place based on cultural expectations in conservative Muslim cultures. I earned my MA in linguistics and my PhD in technology, media and society from the University of Colorado Boulder.
