I have been involved with artificial intelligence, natural language processing, search, big data and machine learning for the past 20 years. I currently lead the AI research (FAIR) and applied (AML) teams at Facebook.
Prior to Facebook, I was the CEO of BenevolentTech, the tech arm of BenevolentAI, a British technology company using artificial intelligence to accelerate scientific discovery. Before that I managed a global team of researchers and software engineers within IBM Watson to create the IBM Watson Platform—a set of AI services that anybody can integrate through the cloud. I joined IBM after its acquisition of Vivisimo, the innovative search solutions company I co-founded in 2000. Before Vivisimo, I was a visiting scientist at Carnegie Mellon University’s computer science department, carrying out research on text mining and AI.
I am a Carnegie Science Entrepreneur and Pittsburgh 40 under 40 awardee, and am an alumnus of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris with a PhD in pure maths and degrees in philosophy and cognitive sciences.
