I joined the team as the first Quantitative Researcher in June 2011; however, I’ve always considered myself a quant person with a qual heart. Prior to Facebook, I was a Postdoc at Virginia Bioinformatics Institute. I earned my Ph.D. in Economics from Virginia Tech and hold a B.Eng. in Computer Science with a Minor in Mathematics from Zhejiang University. While my academic experience may seem a bit all over the place, my interest in network science is what threaded the 4 disciplines together and brought me to Facebook. My curiosity for the great unknown and restless pursuit for a deeper understanding of human interaction is another key driver for my academic and career path. During my first 2.5 years at Facebook, I studied sentiment and behavior for a wide variety of products, including Photos, Messaging, Groups, and Mobile. In November 2013 I moved from consumer-facing products to the advertising side of our business. Currently I’m leading a team in Ads focusing on providing end-to-end solutions that deliver results for advertisers and meaningful experiences for people.
