I am the Principal Research Scientist for Facebook Connectivity Labs where I provide strategic direction across a portfolio of projects that aim to translate opportunities from new technologies into solutions that can drastically change the economics of deploying wide-scale internet infrastructure.

Prior to joining Facebook, I managed technology development at NASA/JPL for Deep Space Optical Communications, including setting a world-record with a 13-bits-per-photon communications demonstration and was awarded the NASA Exceptional Technology Achievement Medal for my work in developing extremely efficient detectors for optical communications.

Interests

My research background and interests cross a variety of technical fields: chemistry, neurobiology, computer hardware and software, electronics engineering, remote sensing, radio-isotope sensing, non-linear opto-electronics, optical data processing, and classical and quantum optical communications. I have over 100 publications in those fields, several patents, and multiple awards.
