I joined Facebook in January 2017 as Research Scientist Manager to lead efforts in research towards efficient computational models for image and video analysis. In particular, my team focuses on bringing the next generation of AR applications for augmenting humans. My work covers both on-device and in the cloud.
Before Facebook, I received a BS degree in telecommunications, as well as my MS and PhD degrees in electronic engineering from La Salle School of Engineering (LSE) in Barcelona (Spain) in 1994, 1996 and 2002, respectively. In 1997 and 2000, I became assistant and associate professor at LSE. In 2003 I joined the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and was faculty until 2017. At CMU I directed the Human Sensing Laboratory. I have published numerous book chapters and have more than 200 peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and conferences in computer vision and machine learning.
