Daniela Busse

Research Leader

My work passion is research and incubation of breakthrough user experiences. Before joining Facebook, I’ve held positions as VP/Director of Research, Strategy, and Innovation incl. at Citi Ventures, Samsung Research, eBay, and SAP Lab’s Office of the CEO – leading research for emerging experiences (incl. AR/VR, AI/ML, IOT/Wearables, Blockchain) as well as larger societal themes and trends (incl. on Trust & Community), and got to ship some great products along the way. I had gotten my start as a Design Researcher at Microsoft’s Office Design Group when I first came to the US from Europe early on.

I’m part of the IxDA SF local leadership team, have been a long-time active member of ACM SIGCHI, and am a proud holder of a few patents, publications, and awards, including a prestigious “Outstanding Inventor” award from Samsung.

I hold a Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction from Glasgow University (Scotland, UK), as well as summa cum laude degrees in both Comp Sci and Psychology.

Outside of work, I love being out and about in the city as soon as the sun comes out on weekends catching art and live music (as the pandemic allows), and I’ve traveled broadly on most continents – I cherish the exposure to other cultures, people, and ideas.
