2020

Lydia Zakynthinou is a PhD Candidate in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences at Northeastern University, advised by Jonathan Ullman and Huy Lê Nguyễn. Her research focuses on the theoretical foundations of machine learning and data privacy. She is interested in demonstrating the tradeoffs between the different computational and statistical resources consumed by learning algorithms, such as running time, samples, error, and privacy, under various data assumptions. Her recent focus is also in understanding and formalizing the properties that guarantee generalization in learning algorithms, a problem that is intimately related to data privacy.

Prior to joining Northeastern, she completed an MSc in Logic, Algorithms, and Theory of Computation from the University of Athens and a diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in Greece, where she was born and raised.
